KCA DEUTAG’s jack-up rig, the Ben Loyal, began a contract for PEMEX (the Mexican National Oil Company) in September 2006, in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of the Mexican state of Campeche. The rig subsequently won a second contract from Pemex in September 2008, for a further 784 days.

The jack-up underwent a substantial upgrade and refurbishment programme in Texas prior to commencing work on the Cantarell field - the most productive field that PEMEX has at the moment - performing workover as well as drilling operations.

The support base for the MODU is located on the island of Ciudad del Carmen, in the state of Campeche.
