KCA DEUTAG currently manages more than 100 drilling rigs worldwide, operating in more than 20 countries and employing more than 8,000 personnel. We continue to build capability in our key areas of North and West Africa, Europe, Russia, the Middle East, the North Sea and the Caspian Sea, by investing in new rigs, the refurbishment and upgrading of existing equipment, and training personnel to ensure that we remain the ‘Drilling Contractor of Choice’.

In recent years KCA DEUTAG has expanded its operations in several countries with operating conditions ranging from desert to arctic environments. New operations have been established in Algeria, Gabon, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Thailand and significant expansion achieved in Azerbaijan, Nigeria and Russia (both Siberia and Sakhalin Island).

MODUs Market

KCA DEUTAG re-entered the MODU market in 2006 with the acquisition of three cantilever jack-up drilling units and part equity investments in four self-erect tenders. We are currently responsible for the marketing and management of 11 MODUs and are also marketing jack-ups currently under construction on behalf of Norwegian investment groups.

Land Rig Fleet

KCA DEUTAG has expanded its land rig fleet to more than 60 rigs. We have introduced two new rig designs to meet client requirements, the ‘HR-5000’ cluster slider rig for operations in Russia and the ‘Nomad’ highly mobile rig for desert terrain considerations in North Africa and the Middle East.

We also have a presence in Houston, Texas, in recognition of the significant number of oil companies, service contractors and suppliers with headquarters in the city. One of the specific goals of our Houston office is to pursue engineering contracts in KCA DEUTAG's core geographic areas. To date, the company has executed engineering study work related to Nigeria, Sakhalin and Angola. In the rest of the USA, we have one jack-up rig, the Ben Loyal currently contracted to PEMEX in the Gulf of Mexico and all three of our jack-ups have been refurbished on the Sabine River on the Texas Louisiana border.

Offshore platforms

Currently KCA DEUTAG is responsible for over 30 managed offshore platforms in the North Sea, Caspian, Angola, and Sakhalin.
