KCA DEUTAG has been operating in the North Sea for more than 30 years, following the award by BP in 1974 of the first platform drilling contract in the North Sea for the Forties Field and has been working continuously on the ExxonMobil Beryl Field for more than 25 years.

Our acquisition of Norway’s Prosafe Drilling Services in 2005 made us the largest platform drilling contractor in the North Sea, responsible for managing 13 platform drilling rigs in the UK sector and eight in the Norwegian sector.

We have been responsible for completing major upgrades of existing platform drilling rigs for several of our clients. These upgrades have been carried out with the assistance of our engineering division RDS and include projects such as a rig upgrade for extended reach drilling, installation of top drive systems, cuttings handling systems, drill-floor mechanisation, through-tubing rotary drilling etc.
