Our global network of operations spans 26 countries, where we employ over 11,000 people in our Land, Offshore and Kenera business units. We currently operate or own 167 drilling rigs across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Caspian Sea, Latin America and Canada.

Our Kenera business unit drives our efforts to support the energy transition with the development of decarbonisation technologies and the delivery of products and services to clean energy markets . As part of the KCA Deutag Group, Kenera brings together over 135 years of experience, knowledge, skills and expertise from the KCA Deutag Group, RDS and Bentec to deliver customer-centric solutions.

1888

Drilling company Heinrich Lapp founded in Aschersleben, Germany.

1905

Drilled first well in its own concessions in Wietze, Germany.

1919

Company renamed, Deutsche Tiefbohr Aktiengesellschaft-Deutag, before it was taken over in the 1920s by engineering firm, C. Deilmann Bergbau und Tiefbau.

1940-1945

The collapse of Germany results in the loss of facilities in Ascherslebenn and all rigs located in Eastern Germany and Eastern Europe.

1946

With little equipment remaining, Deutag re-established its headquarters in Bad Bentheim, allowing the company to take advantage of opportunities for expansion in the nearby oil and gas fields.

1957

KCA (Keir Cawder Arrow) Drilling was founded in Scotland.

1962

Deutag began drilling in Spanish Sahara, now Morocco.

1964

Deutag began drilling in Oman.

1968

Deutag began drilling in Libya.

1973

Deutag began workerover operations in Qatar.

1974

KCA won its first offshore platform service contract in the UK North Sea for BP, establishing itself as a major player in the North Sea fields.

1975

Startup of the first offshore platform rig by Deutag on Shell Esso platform at Brent Bravo in UK North Sea.

1978

Deutag started first Far East operations in Brunei.

1979

Formation of a joint venture between KCA and Zenith Cape.

1983

KCA acquired Zenith Cape's minority interest and took full control.

1988

Deutag's 100th anniversary. The company owns 50+ rigs and has drilled over 20 million feet.

1989

Blystad acquire majority stake in KCA.

1990

C. Deilmann AG transfer ownership of Deutag to Preussag AG, Hannover.

1992

KCA Drilling Ltd (Blystad Group) purchased by Abbot Holdings.

1994

Deutag sourced out its engineering and fabrication department, forming Bentec.

1995

KCA HQ moved from London to Aberdeen, UK.

1996

KCA acquires Nabor's European operations.

1998

Deutag acquires Smevig's platform drilling activities in the UK.

2001

Deutag is purchased by Abbot Group plc and KCA Deutag is formed.

2004

Acquisition of Norwegian drilling contractor Prosafe Drilling and engineering company RDS.

2006

KCA Deutag expands into the MODUs sector by acquiring Songa Drilling.

2018

KCA Deutag acquired the Omani and Saudi Arabian businesses of Dalma Energy LLC.

2022

Acquired Saipem onshore drilling, becoming the leading Middle East land driller.
