Meet Adebayo Aremu, Head of Projects, Land Business Unit
29 October 2024
When Adebayo Aremu, better known as Ade, isn’t travelling to new destinations with his family or being beat on video games by his kids, he’s leading our land drilling projects at our Dammam office in Saudi Arabia.
“I’m part of our land business unit leadership team, overseeing a team of project managers, project leads and a central project management office team. We shape how our land projects function to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery. This includes defining the standards, procedures and guidance for major projects,” Ade says.
“My work is varied and no two projects are the same. Any given day I could be working on new build rigs, major rig overhauls and upgrades, international rig moves and technology-based rig improvements working towards decarbonisation and more sustainable operations.”
A career powered by people
Ade joined the company in 2010 and over the years when asked what he enjoys most about his role, his answer hasn’t changed. It’s our people.
“When I was looking to start my career, I was inspired by those from KCA Deutag I had met along the way and the work that they do. I could really see myself as part of their team. So when a role came up to join our Brunei operations working as a roustabout as part of our graduate programme, I jumped at the opportunity and I haven’t looked back since,” he says.
“I enjoy working with our dynamic, multicultural and multidisciplinary teams across the globe. Everyone has a voice here and all opinions are respected. We understand that everyone can make a positive impact in their own way, and we appreciate our differences, no matter our background, identity or circumstances. It’s how we come up with innovative solutions to tackle the most difficult challenges.
“And today, we’re tackling one of the biggest challenges our industry has ever seen.”
Navigating the future of energy
“Meeting the ever-growing demand for energy security using more efficient and sustainable sources is a mammoth task. And it makes it a very interesting time to work in the industry in particular, drilling,” he explains.
“My teams help shape the what and the how of land rig projects to make sure we’re still providing the energy the world needs today while responding to evolving market demands.”
“The key is to make informed decisions with data that points to the energy mix and collaborate, partner and share learnings with our customers and industry peers. This requires continuous investment in new and emerging technologies like using battery energy storage systems instead of diesel generators to power our operations. And exploring future energy sources like geothermal drilling and hydrogen.”
Ade believes that everyone can contribute to the future of energy, regardless of their background or experience.
“The technologies we need will only get better with time. And the skills we need to drive them are vastly varied. Whether we work in traditional or new energy markets, are just starting out in our career, have been around for a while or are transferring from another industry, we can all play our part.”
