Meet Claire Ferguson, HR Consultant, Aberdeen

Claire’s an experienced HR professional and is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive culture where everyone feels safe, welcome and is empowered to reach their full potential.

“I’ve worked for the company for 12 years now. I started as an HR Assistant providing administration support before joining the corporate team. I then moved through the ranks to HR Coordinator, Advisor, Senior Advisor and now I’m a Consultant. ” she says.

“My role involves supporting our country teams, with project planning, case management guidance and generalist HR advice. Project management plays a large part of my role and allows me to interact with people from across the whole company.”

“I’ve always enjoyed working with different people from different cultures and working with our corporate and offshore teams I get to do just that. The diverse nature of the industry ensures no two days are ever the same, there is always something new to learn and discuss.”

Advocating diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace

As well as her day job, Claire’s also the project manager for our diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) working party.

“We’re focused on creating a collaborative working environment, where everyone feels safe and welcome and can achieve their full potential. Made possible through our DE&I standards, policies and procedures and driven by our Culture of Care, we hold ourselves accountable to fostering a culture of inclusion, recognising the benefits we gain from the diversity that exists amongst our teams,” she explains.

Her vision for the working party is clear: to establish a culture where every voice is not only heard but valued, and where diversity is celebrated as a strength.

“It’s exciting to have an opportunity to effect meaningful change and build a workplace that reflects our values of inclusivity and equity. And it’s inspiring to be a part of a team that has shared goals and objectives,” she says.

“We’re lucky that the energy industry has a global reach and we have access to such a wide pool of very talented people with great ideas. This is reflected within our company too, it’s true that the people really do make KCA Deutag.”

An ever evolving journey

Looking towards the future Claire envisions a workplace where DE&I isn’t not just goals, but integral parts of our company's culture.

"Our success will be defined by tangible outcomes, including increased representation, engagement, and retention of diverse talent. We’re already making a difference by putting a focus on supporting our women in the workplace, tackling unconscious bias, encouraging everyone to have a voice and engaging with our communities where we live and work,” she says.

“We all have the power to effect meaningful change and build a workplace that truly reflects our values of inclusivity and equity. It’s a journey that’s ever evolving but I believe if we work together with the same goal in mind, we’ll be able to achieve great things."
